230828 Humble Pie

Humble Pie

Yes, I can do it on my own

Rely on just myself alone

Need only me, myself, and I

Then, I was served some humble pie

Raced ahead with overconfidence

Don't worry, really, I've got this

To ask for help - I'd rather die

Just ate a piece of humble pie

Done this a million times before

Don't need instructions anymore

I've made a mess now, I won't lie

Another slice of humble pie

My chest is puffed up, full of pride

My head's now grown a mile wide

My own importance amplified

I'm getting sick of humble pie

Must change the way that I see me

I'm called to live life humbly

View others as greater than I

Diminish self - them magnify

For, that's how Christ taught us to be

He left his throne of majesty

Though He was God, he became a man

To humbly walk upon the land

Commands each one to live the same

To do all things in Jesus' name

In everything, give him the glory

But that's not the end of the story

For, if we walk humbly each day

And to others give self away

At end of this life, we'll have found

In next life, receive golden crown

I'm tired of pie, so think I'll make

A double layered, chocolate cake!

Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom

Philippians 2:3

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves

Matthew 23:12

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted

Proverbs 16:18, 29:23

James 4:10

2 Chronicles 7:14
