230829 Rest For The Weary
Rest For The Weary
Sweet Jesus, how I need some rest
I've truly tried to do my best
But, have too many irons in fire
My stack of burden's growing higher
Dear Father, please grant me some rest
For Satan's put me to the test
A crew of demons he must have hired
To torment me and keep me tired
Christ offers rest to the weary
But is that true or just theory
I pray each night for rest to come
Devil just laughs, says," I'm not done."
And so instead of peaceful bed
He wears me out inside my head
My list of burdens does not shrink
Just added to it how I think
Dear God, I know the Bible's true
So, what does your Word say to do
Matthew Eleven: Twenty-eight
Weariness will alleviate
Three little words are all I need
To rest, must simply "Come to Me"
A promise spoken by God's Son
One he offers to everyone
Sweet Jesus, I have come to you
Brought all my cares and burdens, too
Time spent with you, I shall invest
And in exchange, you promise rest
For, I am weary from the fight
And I could use some sleep tonight
So, I will take you at your word
Since you've been faithful to me, Lord
Though know all cares won't go away
With rest, can face another day
Your peace is something I'll acquire
Knowing that you, God never tire
Matthew 11:28
Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burdens on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved
Isaiah 40:29-31
2 Thessalonians 3:13
Psalm 4:8
Exodus 33:14
