Listen to Me
"Oh will you, oh will you please listen to me?"
Said the wee, little tike that sat on my knee
"For, I have a story I want you to hear."
"May I share it with you while you hold me near?"
"Oh, may I please tell you about my day?"
I heard a child to his parent say
But, he might as well have been alone
For Mom never looked up from her phone
"I need you to listen," the teacher did say
But too many students just wanted to play
The knowledge imparted reached nary an ear
For it wasn't something that they wanted to hear
Please listen to me for a moment or two
There's something important that I must tell you
Yet, too often attention's divided between
What someone is saying and electronic screen
Though we may hear talking all of the day long
The listening part's where we often go wrong
See, hearing and listening are just not the same
For without listening, then no knowledge is gained
Total indifference is what one displays
When as you are speaking, their eyes start to glaze
So, right at that point, conversation is dead
For, you know they've not heard a word that you've said
See, if someone is even important to you
Then aren't they someone who is worth listening to
So how little or great the attention you pay
Is the true measure of how much value they weigh
Please listen to me, I've a question for you
Is listening to God something you often do?
Or are you Ike me, for I really can't lie
Mostly take time to talk but don't wait for reply
Listening to God is harder, for it's not loud. Instead
It is something you hear in your heart and your head
But, if listening to God is important to you
Then, you'll put in the effort since it's of value
So, go someplace quiet and put down your phone
Block out all distractions and seek Him alone
Share with Him your heart, but then ask to hear His
If you seek, you shall find, for that's how our God is
And I'm sure you will find if consistently do
Then you'll notice how often He listens to you
For you're deeply loved and of infinite value
That the God of creation thinks you're worth listening to
Revelation 3:20
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.. "
John 10:27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me
Proverbs 2:1-5
Jeremiah 33:3
1 John 5:15
