230908 Wrong Way

Wrong Way

Oh no! I believe

I have gone the wrong way

I've traveled in circles

For day after day

I'm chasing my tail

And I'm getting nowhere

I'm hopelessly lost

Not much more can I bear

I thought that I knew

The correct way to go

But instead, all my steps

Lead to nowhere I know

For I've followed a path

Where the devil has led

He has caused me to stray

By the thoughts in my head

He has told me to follow

My feelings and lusts

For the things of this world

For the "maybes" and "justs"

"Maybe you should try this'

"Just this once isn't bad,"

"Maybe God isn't looking."

Maybe God's really mad. "

Temptation or worry

On each road that I take

I need a quick detour

A u-turn to make

Or a stop sign to help me

To gather a thought

To lead me from danger

So I go where I ought

Which way should I travel

The left or the right

My Savior will show me

My path he will light

For even if off course

I've traveled too long

My God's gracious guidance

Shows where I belong

So my dear Savior's voice

Is what I choose to hear

"Follow me, my sweet child

And your way will be clear. "

He leads me and guides me

Beside waters, still

And green, grassy pastures

Are over that hill

Though even in shadows

And valleys I tread

I know that Christ Jesus

Will walk up ahead

And goodness and mercy

Will follow behind

Then, my path will lead home

For the end of all time

Psalm 23
