It Ought to Be Easy

It ought to be easy, so why is it hard
Allowing my Savior to play all my cards
For if I am honest, he holds every one
Then, why do I always keep talking back some

It ought to be easy to give God the reins
Yet, why then do I find I grab them again
For he's so much better at steering the way
While too often I find life's led me astray

It ought to be easy to witness for Christ
It's something I should do without thinking twice
For he's done such great things that others should know
But sharing, that's often a place I don't go

It ought to be easy to speak to the Father
But if it's about small things, perhaps shouldn't bother
Yet, when troubles are huge and I kneel down to pray
It's sometimes so hard to know what I should say

It ought to be easy to swallow my pride
And share my mistakes, for there's nowhere to hide
And my Father forgives them before they are said
That's a thing my heart knows, but it's hard for my head

It ought to be easy but, often it's not
To show gratitude for the things that I've got
May give passing, "thank you" with nary a thought 
But truly, I don't count blessings like I ought

It ought to be easy to treat others kind
Yet, when hurt, mad, or wronged, it's last thing on my mind
For kindness and mercy are things that I seek
But not always shown in the way that I speak

It ought to be easy to show others love 
For greatest example was sent from above
Though easy to receive it, sometimes hard to give
But love is the essence of this life we all live

There's much in this world that's not easy at all
But it's easy to answer the Creator's call
He calls you to be with him eternally
Just believe Christ is Savior - it's just that easy!

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he he will make straight your paths
