231124 The Day After
The Day After
Day after "Thanks Day" is called Black Friday
But for me, it still is pumpkin pie day
And I don't wake up at crack of dawn
To have my credit card overdrawn
Can't stand to tackle crowds and malls
Watch angry shoppers get in brawls
Over the last item in stock
While store employees stare in shock
Instead, stay home and put away
Pumpkins and scarecrows I display
And take stock of Christmas decor
Then stop for pie - just one slice more
Prior to hanging mistletoe
I like to pause and take things slow
And savor Thanksgiving's essence
Before wrapping Christmas presents
There's hustle at Thanksgiving, too
With cooking, cleaning chores to do
Yet, still, it feels a slower pace
As we count blessings, bow for grace
Your tree is up? I used to, too
This year, I'm trying something new
A different change of attitude
Cling to Thanksgiving's gratitude
Not jump headfirst in Christmas fray
But, meditate on yesterday
Rejoice in new formed memories
Thankful for ways God blesses me
Purposely take time to be still
To hear God's voice, obey his will
For soon enough, I'll feel the pull
Of a whole month, that's oh so full
So, though the frenzy's coming nigh
For now, I'll have last bite of pie
Then, let my focus e're be one
Of glorious birth of God's own Son
Ephesians 5:20

Colossians 4:2
