240112 Purpose to the Pain

Purpose to the Pain

There is a purpose to the pain
Sometimes, it means - don't do again
In cases when you touch things hot
Or doing something that you should not

Pain is a signal something's wrong
Or warning when you're too headstrong
That maybe you have overdone it
Should slow down rather than outrun it

But chronic pain's another thing
Seems only misery it brings
What purpose could there truly be
When you're living in agony?

Emotional pain is very real
The kind that takes long time to heal
How could there be a purpose to it?
That's hard to see when you go through it

Most times, it feels senseless and cruel
Or like you're trapped in a whirlpool
Oft times, it teaches you to grow
Or bad things for you, to let go

Spiritual pain's another kind
When feel abandoned by the Divine
Like falling into a black hole
A pain that hurts your very soul

Sometimes, the lessons to be gained
Are not just for the ones in pain
But for those who are witness to it
Painfully watching you go through it

It stirs compassion; empathy
When you have suffered painfully
The lessons you've learned get passed on
So you can help others be strong

Our precious Savior felt all three
Emotional, physical, spiritually
As he hung on that cursed tree
"My God, why has thou forsaken me?"

The purpose for Christ's pain we know
So believers to Hades won't go
To pay the painful price of sin
So heaven, we could enter in

Whatever pain you must endure
God sees and feels it, that's for sure
Won't forsake or abandon you
May use it in refinement, too

While on this earth; while living here
Your pain's purpose may not be clear
But know, when you're transformed in glory
New life, pain-free will be your story

Romans 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us

Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away

Psalm 147:3
1 Peter 4:12-19
2 Corinthians 1:3-8
