Triggers
What do you find that triggers you?
A single thing or quite a few?
What kind of action sets the stage
To quickly throw you in a rage?
What puts a burr under your saddle?
When people gossip or kids tattle?
Does whining get under your skin
And cause your patience to wear thin?
What really gets on your last nerve
Thus, wish they'd get what they deserve?
Lying? Shouting? Laziness?
Do all these put you to the test?
Or is it drivers who drive slow
When you've places you need to go?
Perhaps knickers get in a knot
When people act like who they're not
Whatever 'tis that triggers you
When it occurs, what do you do?
Do careless drivers evoke scorn
And cause you to lay on the horn
When next-door neighbors disturb peace
Is your first thought to call police?
When a stranger is rude to you
Do you behave just like they do?
We all have triggers in this life
The aggravations that cause strife
But how they're handled is a choice
Each irritant needs not a voice
For silence is the golden key
When triggers disturb harmony
To bite your tongue; to not react
To pray for patience that you lack
When put your finger on your trigger
Though it feels big, our God is bigger
Once identified, can plan ahead
To seek God and stay calm instead
So, next time one is in your face
Approach it with mercy and grace
And soon you'll find that as you do
It triggers Jesus Christ in you!
