240412 How Will You Be Remembered?
How Will You Be Remembered?
How will you be remembered
When your time on earth is through
When friends and family gather round
What will they say of you
Perhaps idea's morbid
But please entertain the thought
Will you have lived a worthy life
Or one that's all for naught
Has life been in pursuing
And accumulating wealth
Have you lived your life for others
Or instead just lived for self
Will church be overflowing
With all those whose lives you've touched
Or will it be more intimate
Some friends, but not too much
How will you be remembered
What will be your legacy
Will your passing leave a mighty hole
Within your family
Will you be fondly remembered
For the kindness that you've shown
Be spoken 'bout in glowing terms
By everyone you've known
Or will a nameless preacher
Who didn't know the real you
Speak some generic eulogy
When your life down here is through
Though we can know with certainty
Where we'll go next when we die
Can we be equally certain
What our life will exemplify
In the end, it doesn't matter much
What others say because
What ultimately matters
Is what your Creator does
For when you meet your Maker
It is then you'll give account
Of if you've served Him faithfully
So, if there's any doubt
It's not too late to reassess
The life that you have led
And readjust priorities
Before you're on deathbed
Live not for self; put others first
But mostly serve the Lord
And when you pass from earthly life
Receive your just reward
Then, how you'll be remembered
Won't be left to own device
You'll leave behind a legacy
That your life was lived for Christ
