240515 To Be A Child
To Be a Child
Oh, to be a child again
Where summers seem to never end
Each birthday takes the longest time
And days are filled with nursery rhymes
When young and hardly been around
The wonders of earth still astound
For, if one's just a little size
Don't yet see things through jaded eyes
Each experience is something new
Since not a thing they've yet lived through
A first event, locale or sight
Can oft elicit pure delight
What joy with each new thing they learn
Or small accomplishment they earn
Each met with loved one's rave applause
No matter how minute the cause
Childhood's a time to be carefree
Little responsibility
To grow and learn, to laugh and play
To celebrate each brand new day
Safe and secure; taken care of
Free from worry; embraced in love
Yet, even when faced with life's harms
Find comfort wrapped in parent's arms
Yes, oh, to be a child again
To spend the hours in sweet pretend
Go back to age of innocence
And all that childhood represents
Yet, I'm a child of God, I know
Regardless of how old I grow
And though the world's filled with alarms
I know I'm safe within His arms
My future can be worry free
With childlike trust inside of me
Life's filled with wonder and surprise
When I still see through a child's eyes
For like a child, I depend on
The One to whom I do belong
And in His endless love, I rest
Assured my Father knows what's best
How blessed to be a child of God
My victories He doth applaud
And when I do things that displease
It's still His beloved child He sees
