240607 Believer

 Believer

I say I'm a believer
Wonder if that's really true
Of course, believe in Jesus Christ
And love him dearly, too

Yet, there are also other things
I say that I believe
But, when it gets down to it
It's myself that I deceive

I say I put my trust in God
Yet, when trouble comes about
Forget to place it in His hands
And oh so quickly doubt

I believe I am forgiven
But then can't forgive myself
Or work and strive to earn God's grace
Like trophies on a shelf

I say as a believer
He'll fulfill my every need
Then worry over finances
With supersonic speed

Say I believe God's promises
Yet, perhaps that isn't true
Not certain they apply to me
But just apply to you

Believe God is omnipotent
In own strength try to do
What clearly I should give to God
Knowing He'll follow through

Believe I am a child of God
And He adores me so
Yet, heart believes deceiver's lies
And that's where my thoughts go

Believe my Lord protects me
But too often, I'm afraid
Too quick to notice all my flaws
Not fearfully, wonderfully made

Believe the fact that in my life
Seen miracle or two
Forget them when the storm clouds come
Am "Doubting Thomas," too

Dear Father,  help my unbelief
I pray for faith that's strong
Please wrap me in your loving arms
For that's where I belong
Help my belief bare witness
That your promises are true
Use me to grow your kingdom
Leading others straight to you
For, I believe Christ's risen
And that He's your precious Son
That He'll bring me to heaven one day
Where all believers come
