240625 Victimhood
Victimhood
If take the time to look around
The world appears quite upside down
For now, it seems that victimhood
Is something others see as good
Seems more things you're a victim of
Makes you somehow a cut above
If persecuted in some way
A badge of honor you display
And also it entitles you
To have some compensation due
Someone should have to pay the cost
Of pain suffered or innocence lost
Don't get me wrong, victims abound
Evil and hate are all around
Not speaking of true victims here
But those who make it a career
If attitude is " woe is me"
That becomes your identity
When feel the victim every hour
You're giving others all your power
You put it in the hands of those
That you believe brought on your woes
See, in reality it's true
You're not the things that you've been through
As victims, you won't get too far
That attitude's not who you are
Yet, if it's your reality
Doesn't have to be your destiny
Forget what's past - that life is dead
Get victimhood out of your head
Rid self of that mentality
Replace with thoughts of victory
No matter what you've felt or heard
The truth is found within God's word
Through Christ you can live better, stronger
Don't be a victim any longer
Victim in truth, or in your mind
The devil can use either kind
But that is not how God sees you
Nor kind of life he's planned, it's true
God gave you a spirit of power
Not made to fear; in corner cower
Nor let it become an excuse
So life you lead is of no use
Victimhood's self-centered at the core
God calls you to be so much more
Self-pity is no way to live
Instead, serve others, love, and give
If we could die to self each day
Most victimhood would go away
So look outward and not within
And let the victory begin!
