240627 It's 4 a.m.

 It's 4 a.m.

It's 4 a.m., I'm wide awake
My own advice I did not take
I tell myself God's got my back
Yet, sleep and faith I seem to lack

I toss and turn and worry so
But none of this makes troubles go
Tomorrow, drowsiness, I'll fight
Because I've been up half the night

It seems no matter how I try
Can't get uninterrupted shut eye
For worries can invade my dreams
Could it be part of Satan's schemes?

I'm sure the devil comes in play
For I stay busy during day
But in the quiet of the night
With guard down, he attacks outright

For he knows his attacks work best
When I am tired and needing rest
I need a different strategy
If peaceful sleep's to come to me

Like everything that troubles me
Best place to start's on bended knee
No need to worry until dawn
I know my Father's light's still on

Like me, my God's awake also
So it is to Him I will go
To pray for peace to calm my mind
For He will hear me anytime

Can rest assured, my cares He'll keep
And work on them while I'm asleep
From cares to blessings, steer my brain
So I can fall asleep again

Next time 4 a.m. rolls around
It'll find that I am sleeping sound
And in the dawn I'll wake refreshed
Because I've received peaceful rest
