240629 Blame Game

 Blame Game

It's not my fault that I'm angry
Do you know what they did to me?
Retaliation's name of game
They only have themselves to blame

"He started it!" a child's refrain
In an attempt to shift the blame
Just trying to even the score
And so the squabbles start once more

You can't blame me; my life's been hard
The fates have dealt me lousy cards
You don't know all that I've been through
If did, you'd behave same way too

Losing temper, creating scene
Making excuses when we're mean
Can always find someone to blame
When getting off the hook's our aim

Blame traffic when we act a jerk
Blame mean boss when our job we shirk
Justifications can be lame
When really have ourselves to blame

Take no responsibility
If blame's on them instead of me
Behavior then won't have to change
Or circumstances rearrange

The blame game is an ancient one
In Garden of Eden was begun
Adam blamed Eve; Eve, the serpent
Through Cain and Abel, on it went

Freed Jews blamed Moses for their woes
We all shift blame, so on it goes
Without accepting part we play
But, Jesus shows a better way

For, even those by whom was slain
Christ chose to forgive, not to blame
Took on their sin and bore the shame
Thus loved them; can't we do the same?

Forgive the driver cut us off
Forgive the overzealous boss
Forgive the whiner or bad sport
Accept the blame when we fall short

Dear Father, Give me eyes to see
What's my responsibility
Accept full blame when it is due
Repent and seek mercy from you
Receive it, then go do the same
To others I could surely blame
In loving kindness choose to live
Ask for forgiveness,  and forgive
Release me from the need to blame
Ask all of this in Jesus' name
