240723 The Road of Grief
The Road of Grief
Happiness walks with companions
But our grief travels alone
We can celebrate within a crowd
Sorrow's pathway is our own
Well, of course we can be happy
In a place of solitude
And likewise, can certainly be grieved
While within a multitude
Still, folks eagerly share happiness
Path of grief's a lonely one
People seek light-hearted revelry
But the grieving, tend to shun
May not be lack of compassion
Or not knowing what to say
But the path of grief's uniquely yours
Must be walked through your own way
Surely, others can walk by your side
And give the support you need
But on this most winding journey
It's your grief that takes the lead
Grief can take you onto detours
Where you did not want to go
Rerouting you down darkened roads
Ones that you don't even know
Grief can take you back to places
That you thought you'd left behind
Though you want to follow straight paths
Find grief's pathways tend to wind
Grief can so disorient you
When you stop to look around
It feels you have made no progress
Only covered the same ground
The road of grief's a long one
And can be a lonely trip
But keep putting foot in front of foot
It will slowly lose its grip
Though each grief journey's unique one
Those who've walked it before you
Can offer a great comfort, 'cause
It's a journey they've made, too
And the Lord sends the Great Comforter
To console and be your guide
Walk with you each step on road of grief
Til you reach the other side
May you take great comfort knowing
That great grief comes from great love
And though grief hurts, it shows love's worth
A true blessing from above
