At Peace

We all say we could use some peace
That's what we tell ourselves, at least
Yet, senses are on overload
Til feels like our heads will explode 

Can claim peace is what we desire
Still, turn life's volume ever higher
Fill days with electronic toys
And then lament 'bout all the noise

We say that peace is what we need
Yet, our thoughts dart at lightning speed
With little thought of how to slow
The busyness of to and fro

Profess that peace is what we seek
Then why is unrest at its peak
For if we truly seek, we find
Yet, peace seems to be in decline

Peace is something we must pursue 
Not simply hope it comes to you
Achieving it requires action
So, start with turning off distraction

The quickest way your peace to lose
Is sit and watch the nightly news
And peaceful is not how you'll be
If you are scrolling endlessly 

To a degree, peace can be
 found
In simple act of slowing down
Be still; be quiet; take deep breath 
See value in the need to rest

Even in midst of busy day
When peace feels very far away
A calm and serene attitude 
Can be achieved through gratitude 

With thankfulness for every breath
A thought life filled with gratefulness
Trust that the Lord is in control
Brings peace to body, mind, and soul

To know how deeply God loves you
And cares about what you go through 
Can put your anxious mind at ease
And restore you to place of peace

Dear God, my focus is on you
I've faith that all you say is true
And so I know that trust will bring
Peace that surpasses understanding

  Choose Joy Whenever there's a choice to make Let joy be path you choose to take When love and hate are on the scale Let love be one that does prevail When anger - patience doth compete And people we tend to mistreat It's said we sow in what we reap So, sow in patience- temper keep When circumstances bring you down And all you want to do is frown Choose happiness instead, my friend Then soon you'll see your sadness end I know it's easier said than done Often more battles devil's won But get back up and try some more  For after all, God's won the war Choose kindness 'stead of getting back Instead of shortness, practice tact With every godly choice you make The devil's grip begins to break With practice, then quite soon you'll see Good choices come more easily Thus, love and joy will conquer strife Becoming hallmark of your life
