240908 Pleasures

 Pleasures

There are many pleasures on this earth
A wealth of things that bring us mirth
A playful kitten, a baby's squeal
The way a warm hug makes us feel

There's much that's pleasing to the eyes
A field of flowers or clear blue skies
A loved one's face, a mountain brook
There're pleasures everywhere you look

There's nothing like the pleasant sounds
Heard from songbirds or kid's playgrounds
A springtime rain, a gentle breeze
A quartet singing harmonies

Oh, what delicious pleasantries
Of crisp apples or French pastries
A gourmet meal, fresh churned ice cream
The stuff that causes pleasant dreams

The world is filled with many pleasures
God's blessings, meant for us to treasure
Acknowledge them with gratitude
For he delights in pleasing you

A word of caution,  if I may
If seeking pleasure fills your day
And that is all you strive to do
Pleasures can be a curse to you

For Satan loves to twist things 'round
Thus, run your pleasure cruise aground
Real pleasure he can counterfeit
Then what was good, he ruins it

If earthly pleasure's all we seek
To its temptation, we'll grow weak
When this life's pleasures turn to lusts
Then devil's got the best of us

It's balance that we should strive for
God offers pleasures, that's for sure
And we should praise him when they come
But pleasures aren't the total sum

Heavenly treasures, we should store
For they have value so much more
Than earthly, fleeting pleasures do
For earth's a place we're passing through

Enjoy the journey - that's God's way
Thank him for blessings everyday
Take pleasure in what e're you do
Bless others and thus please God too
