240925 Fall Garden
Fall Garden
How I love digging in the dirt
Until my hands and knees both hurt
To turn the soil with hoe or spade
Till finally, perfect bed is made
Not just in spring but in the fall
When pansies, mums, tulip bulbs call
It seems dirt under fingernails
Is remedy for all my ails
For there is magic in the soil
So, all my digging isn't toil
Instead, with every spade I lift
Feels like Creator's precious gift
For when I plant I've part to play
Creating beauty, in small way
With every seed, and bulb, and sprout
New life springs forth, without a doubt
It also breathes new life in me
And for a time, I'm worry-free
Then, as fall garden starts to grow
I get to reap what e're I sow
I reap in joy of time well spent
I reap in beauty, contentment
I reap in calmness and in peace
On garden bench, stress I release
As I survey fall garden scene
My awe of God's acutely keen
His hand in every living thing
Birds in the birdbath, bulbs for spring
The miracle of life renewed
Rejuvenated attitude
For gardens feel like sacred places
And from life's stresses, an oasis
Or just perhaps used to entice
Me with a glimpse of paradise
For after all God's perfect plan
In Eden's garden, it began
Back to that garden, I will strive
Each blessed day that I'm alive
When earthly life reaches an end
Walk in God's garden once again
