240926 On Purpose
On Purpose
What is your purpose; yes, why are you here
Do you have no idea, or is it crystal clear
What do you live for; your reason to be
Are you living for others, or just selfishly
Why were you born; in this world, where's your place
Would anyone care if your life was erased
Do we all have a purpose, a reason on earth
Was it planned from the start; even before our birth
For life without purpose is empty indeed
It is hardwired within us; it's something we need
Yes, it gives life true meaning, a reason to live
To know that we matter, and have gifts to give
Without reason for living, we stumble 'round lost
So we seek meaning elsewhere, no matter the cost
Thus, leading to trouble; for the devil is slick
And a man without purpose is easier to trick
But, how do you find it if you've not a clue
Well, the key, I believe, is what's closest to you
The passions you have and the people you love
Are guideposts to purpose, each sent from above
It's not always coincidence people cross paths
If from God there's a purpose and so it will last
It's the same way that life's circumstances apply
If it's part of God's plan, you will know by and by
So, look to your passions and of those whom you care
For chances are God is the one placed them there
Likewise, people and circumstance not in God's will
Won't lead to your purpose, but only downhill
Thus, discernment's required; let the Lord be your guide
For your purpose is something your Father won't hide
If you ask, he will show you the path that's for you
Then, to trust and to follow, be willing to do
As Christians, main purpose is to serve risen Lord
In so doing, we'll earn a most heavenly reward
Not the kind that is fleeting, from earthly pursuits
But the kind everlasting; the kind with deep roots
Dear Father, I ask you to show me today
My purpose and that I let you lead the way
May I follow with honor your course that is true
And may all of my steps be ones pleasing to you
