Godly Suffering
Oh, how I am ashamed of me
For I don't suffer silently
Instead, I whine and bellyache
Man's sympathy, I gladly take
My suffering - don't tend to hide
Instead, almost a source of pride
My attitude is " woe is me"
Nothing about it is godly
I'm suffering, so understand
When I don't lend a helping hand
Excuse it; thus, live selfishly
Though others suffer more than me
Of course, when we are suffering
That should not be a lonely thing
There're times when we all need a hand
Yet, still extend one as we can
Though suffering, it's no excuse
And self-pity is of no use
For no one makes it through this life
Without loss, sorrow, pain, or strife
Was blessed to love a dear, dear friend
Who suffered godly till the end
No matter what pain she did face
She handled all of it with grace
And though her suffering was great
She smiled and did not hesitate
To share her faith and praise her King
And pray with others suffering
And even more miraculously
Though she experienced misery
The teacher in her teaches still
How to suffer, yet do God's will
To never whine or to complain
Let thankfulness be your refrain
To fellow man, in valleys dark
You can be light - or just a spark
To know that Jesus suffered too
Then, mimic what the Lord did do
For while Christ hung upon the cross
He saw how Mary grieved her loss
So he made sure that John was there
To comfort her and give her care
But, also in his suffering
A thief to heaven, Christ would bring
So that's how godly suffering goes
In midst, still care for least of those
Not simply wait till suffering's through
To do what God's called you to do
To suffer's a cross we all bear
Yet, can endure with godly air
If we'll just focus outwardly
Worship and serve God endlessly
