241102 Die to Self

 Die to Self

If gospel says to die to self
Should all my needs be put on shelf
What does that phrase exactly mean
For death is not a place I've seen

The problem, far as I can see
Is too few behave selflessly
We tend to always want our way
And "me, me, me" too often say

A servant's role did Jesus take
To live and die for other's sake
Though death might not come literally
We, too, must die to self you see

For living just for self alone
Or when, " What about me," we moan
Will never satisfy or fill
As living for our Savior will

So, when you give yourself away
To others God has placed your way
Then, in return you'll realize
That all your needs are satisfied

To loving others, we are called
And acting humbly, after all
When think of their needs before own
It shows true love of Christ is known

Self-sacrifice is hard to do
When all you think about is you
Our selfish nature's hard to fight
In own importance we delight

Put others first is what we ought
And not treat as an afterthought
To walk in true humility
Then humble servant we will be

For as we model after Christ
No longer feels like sacrifice
When we bless others as we should
It warms our hearts and feels so good

Yes, things must die to bring new life
Thus, die to self won't cut like knife
Instead, produces love not pain
You lose yourself, but Christ you gain
