Campfire Stories
How pleasant is a campfire
With my loved ones gathered 'round
Where laughter, idle chatter
And great stories all abound
It has a magic quality
Like few things I could name
Something about it draws you in
Just like a moth to flame
Perhaps it is the dancing light
That pierces through the dark
The playful, swirling tongues of joy
All started with a spark
Or it could be the aroma
A sweet incense to the nose
Of hickory, pecan and pine
Or any one of those
And oh, the campfire stories
Growing longer with the flames
Then dying down to embers
Memories stoke them once again
As the fire warms the chilly air
Campfire stories warm the heart
Reliving; making memories
That last after all depart
I think 'bout my sweet Savior
With disciples 'round a fire
Sharing the warmth and light of Christ
In person for a while
And oh, what campfire stories
Told together at day's end
Miracles seen, mysteries explained
From Jesus, their dear friend
So, as I sit by my campfire
With marshmallows to toast
Praise the same Lord, who calls me friend
A truth of which I boast
Yes, sharing love and fellowship
And tales of all God's glories
In praise and worship of the Christ
Are the greatest campfire stories!
