241121 The Closest Ones
The Closest Ones
Why is it that we treat the worst
The ones that we are closest to
With others, our response's rehearsed
Each word more carefully thought through
Why is it with our family
We freely show our ugly side
But with those we don't even know
It's something we're able to hide
With those we're trying to impress
Show self-control and best behavior
Same courtesy don't show to kin
Though doing so is no small favor
We should be kind to everyone
Something the Lord wants us to do
Not just to strangers and our peers
But to the ones we're closest to
With family, can be ourselves
For we're sure they will love us still
With others, we won't take that chance
Since we're not certain that they will
There's freedom in letting hair down
And being who we want to be
But if it hurts the ones we love
Then, is that freedom even free
Yes, there's a price that's always paid
When we're harsh, angry, rude, or short
If say we do it out of love
Then it is love that we distort
For love is patient; love is kind
It does not envy, nor does boast
It is not arrogant or rude
So show it to those who are close
And certainly continue to
Love others as we're called to do
Those close are treasures from the Lord
Thus, should be cherished and adored
