241127 Thanksgiving Eve

 Thanksgiving Eve

Busy, busy, busyness
This day before Thanksgivingness
I'm running ragged, more or less
My gosh, this kitchen's quite a mess

Been baking rolls and pumpkin pie
New recipe, I think I'll try
Another dust bunny I spy
I've dusted, yet they multiply

Use fancy butter, not the tub
The bird we bought is quite a chub
I'm getting stressed; could use neck rub
There's no way we'll eat all this grub

Washed windows, vacuumed, mopped the floor
Made final run to grocery store
Could we make room for one chair more
I hear a knock; please get the door

So, soon the guests will trickle in
Greetings and laughter will begin
The game comes on; will our team win
I've heard that gluttony's a sin

Some guests will come from far away
Neighbor drops by but cannot stay
Whole family coming? I can't say
Plenty of food though, either way

Will all my work be done in time
Forgotten who's bringing the wine
I need more rosemary and thyme
At least I've conquered all the grime

Just like a Martha, I can be
Yet, I shall strive to be Mary
Relax, enjoy my family
And thank my Lord abundantly

Tonight, when I lay down my head
And think about the day ahead
The love of those with whom break bread
The thankfulness in prayers we've said

Tomorrow I shall slow my pace
And as I bow my head in grace
See God's reflection in each face
A feeling nothing can replace

All my work's been labor of love
For family and God above
And the bountiful blessings of
A God most worthy of my love
