241129 The Aftermath
The Aftermath
Carbohydrate overload
Gravy spilled upon the stove
Calories consumed? Don't want to know
Where will these leftovers go
Such a feast on which to dine
All the food was so divine
Did we drink up all the wine
Filled trashcan a second time
Dessert and coffee, now complete
Every guest has left their seat
Headed home on darkened street
Now I can get off my feet
Dishes cleaned and put away
So ready to hit the hay
But it's only 8, you say
Might just head back anyway
Since energy's an empty tank
Already head on pillow sank
Sweet joys to fill my memory bank
And heavenly Father, God to thank
Dear Lord, I'm filled with thankful praise
Each day, not just on holidays
For all the ways your love displays
Forevermore and for always
And with the coming of each dawn
Though hustle-bustle hits head-on
With gratitude, I'll reflect on
Your mercies that are never gone
Then, as I travel to and fro
Still bask in Thanksgiving's warm glow
And try to spread it as I go
So, through me, your pure love can grow
