 I Don't Understand 

There's so much I don't understand 
Though I have lived so long
There're many things I thought I knew
But found out I was wrong

You'd think that when I'd reached this age
That I'd have grown so wise
Yet, there's so much I still don't get
Things right before my eyes

Like how the stars all stay aloft 
Why each snowflake's unique 
How nature's beauty fills my soul
Till I can hardly speak

Love won't divide, but multiplies
With each grandchild I hold
Or, why the beauty of sunsets
Somehow does not grow old

How are the oceans kept in place 
Where does the wind come from
How does God know my deepest thoughts
When I've spoke not a one


Why is it that the Lord above 
Who holds eternity
Can also hold me in his hands
A God mindful of me

There's so much I don't understand 
But, some things I do know
That Jesus is a friend of mine
And to Him I can go

That I'm a precious child of God
And he delights in me
So, wrapped inside his warm embrace 
Is where I long to be

I know that I can talk to him
To share what's on my heart
And Spirit answers in my soul
For that's the Spirit's part

I know it's not important 
That I understand all things
For faith says I can trust God does
That truth, contentment brings

How Did I Get Here? How did I get here? I don't know Seemed sometimes fast, other times slow Though, does not matter what the pace Still wonder how came to this place How did I reach this point in time? Reality of it's so sublime For most of journey was uphill Through hard fought land, yet, I'm here still How did I get from there to here? In baby steps year after year? Unearned Earn a promotion, earn a raise Earn touchdown for good football plays Earn gold medal or blue ribbon Earn leading role for play you're in Earn soccer trophy, scholarship  Earn respect in a relationship  Earn settlement in legal suit Earn recognition playing flute While every one of those is nice Won't earn your way to paradise  It's not something you can work for Only one way opens that door It's a free gift! Can you believe it? The one thing to do is receive it Accept that Jesus is the Christ And then can live in paradise  It seems too simple to be true For surely there is more to do In this life, everyone has learned All things of value must be earned How could this gift be freely given A golden ticket into heaven?
