250113 Indifference

 Indifference

Though it is open for debate
The opposite of love's not hate
I've seen love die, and I've learned since
The opposite's indifference

In love, you can't be on the fence
There's no room for indifference
If for their welfare you don't care
It's obvious that love's not there

If their needs don't become your own
They might as well be on their own
For true love entails sacrifice
Mere tolerance just won't suffice

Indifference, of which I speak
Is seeing need, yet crossing street
To disengage emotionally
Til other's burdens you don't see

Could you imagine Peace's Prince
Living a life of indifference
The thought of it's absurdity
A thing the Christ could never be

For pure love was his true essence
Farthest thing from indifference
Seeking the lost, those in despair
And treating them with utmost care

His love for man on full display
Would not see need, then look away
Though God, he still knelt in the dirt
To help the outcast and the hurt

To show God's love by sharing his
And in love's name, sacrifice give
To cry along with those who mourn
To give mercy, though own flesh torn

To honor God with reverence
Don't live life of indifference
Seek those in need and show them care
You've God's love, with enough to spare

And so dear ones, from this day hence
Let's vow to make a difference
For with God's love inside, it's true
'Tis thing we're all compelled to do
