250224 All About Me

 All About Me

How often do I fail to see
Not everything's all about me
And if I want to keep it real
Not all about the way I feel

For feelings can be fickle things
And often selfishness they bring
In doing only what feels good
Won't cause me to live life I should

And when I demand to be first
Have tendency to make things worse
Don't mean my needs should be denied
Lest only them, preoccupied

When me is all I think about
Then thoughts of others get pushed out
When only time on self is spent
To others, grow indifferent

Yes, all must curb their tendency
To think about just "me, me, me"
Put selfishness upon the shelf
And just like Jesus, die to self

We're not called to die literally
Though Savior did that, certainly
But to die to our fleshy lusts
And live for others, all of us

God, open my eyes so I see
When my thoughts fixate inwardly
Dear Father, help me turn my gaze
Outward, and stop my selfish ways
I'm not center of universe
Mold me to think of others first
Show me each opportunity
To help others all about me
Those that I know and strangers, too
To show love, for that's all about You
