 Hands

Did you ever take a moment and
Reflect upon the human hand
The wonder of the perfect sum
Of fingers and opposing thumb

The grasp of newborn's dimpled fist
Is every parent's state of bliss
A toddler's hand wrapped up in yours
To keep them safe and guide their course

The clumsy hands that seem no use
When young one's learn to tie their shoes
The myriad of things hands hold
The wrinkled hands of one grown old

Sensitive enough for reading braille
Or paint with intricate detail
With nimbleness pluck guitar strings
The hands are such miraculous things

Range of emotions hands express
From angry fist to sweet caress
A hand on shoulder for support
Slap of high five when playing sport

Sweet joy of lovers holding hands
A pat that says, I understand
A friendly wave, an okay sign
Applause of hands for something fine

If need evidence that God exists
It's right there at your fingertips
For, even with a passing glance
Know hands did not happen by chance

Miraculous from nails to wrist
Hands down, they're proof that God's in this
What peace and joy when understand
That we are safely in God's hands

The one who would not withhold his Son
Whose hands were pierced for everyone
Holds out his hands to call us in
To live eternally with him

So raise your hands, surrender all
Respond to Heavenly Father's call
Know you'll walk hand and hand with Christ
Forevermore in paradise
