 Trusted Friend

What if you had a trusted friend
The kind of which you could depend
Yet, only spoke to now and then
And usually when reached wit's end

Do you ever treat the Lord that way
Exclude him from your day to day
Yet, times you can't keep woes at bay
You run to him without delay

Unless in need, you hardly speak
And though it's good when him you seek
Relationship is rather weak
Unless distress is at its peak

He's always there when things are grim
Or when the light of hope is dim
Yet, are you quick in thanking him
When blessings fill cup to the brim

If seek a deep relationship
Then gratitude you can not skip
Though life can feel like sinking ship
Praise Father in the midst of it

I'm sure the Lord would like to know
More than simply your tales of woe
He's there for every high and low
Let praise for him then overflow

For Jesus Christ has called you friend
He's more than just an ear to bend
A steadfast, loving companion
A truth that's hard to comprehend

Though unbelievable, it's true
The one that has created you
Can be your Lord and your friend too
With love that nothing can undo

Someone to share your secrets with
Your heavy burdens  to help lift
Of trusted friends  - first on your list
Truly greatest, most precious gift

Dear Lord, my head and knees I bend
In praise and awe, my arms extend
Your love, no other can transcend
How blessed that I can call you, friend!
