250524 Work in Progress

 Work in Progress

Perhaps you think I've something wrong
But, I so love to mow the lawn
To see the yard all trim and neat
When mowing, edging are complete

And you'd be right if you assume
I also like to paint a room
Be cooler hue or one that's warm
I thrill to see a wall transform

And though both chores require work
Neither are jobs I choose to shirk
There's satisfaction given me
To see results immediately

Don't tackle all projects with zeal
For some tasks hold little appeal
Work can feel anything but light
When the results are not forthright

There's some work I don't like at all
When it requires the long haul
Thus, tend to do little tasks first
While longer ones feel more coerced

Desire to be gratified
Immediately, can't be denied
For most of us, there's no debate
We simply do not like to wait

Though waiting can be difficult
It's part of being an adult
Think otherwise is juvenile
Takes time for things that are worthwhile

Hard to wait for work to bear fruit
My own impatience at the root
Easier about a job to scoff
When I must wait for the payoff

And so, impatient I become
Or to frustration,  I succumb
Especially when the job is me
And scant improvement do I see

Want to be Christ-like right away
Not in a lifetime, but a day
To have Jesus abide in me
And act like him immediately

Yet, in my heart I know that's wrong
For worthy goals often take long
And to God, I'm worthy indeed
So, I must trust the Father's speed

And though impatient I may be
God's loving and full of mercy
So, while I'm truly not there yet
My progress God does not forget

For, as a work, I'm not complete
Until I rest at Jesus' feet
But till that day I'll work with zeal
So, through me, Jesus, I'll reveal
