230811 Right Living

Right Living

What makes one behave decently

Instead of acting selfishly

What causes someone to refrain

From seeking only their own gain

Why'd one to charity open purse

Or anyone put others first

Why serve our neighbors, family, friends

Treat nicely, so not to offend

Why, then respect authority

Or ever treat strangers kindly

To use words like please and thank you

Is that something we're forced to do

Some say in polite society

That's how we are supposed to be

For there's a standard to uphold

Perhaps that is what you've been told

Yet, where does that standard come from

Is it the goal of everyone

One look around, you know it's true

It's not something all adhere to

I ask again its origin

A standard way of kind living

Is it something born inside of us

Genetic trait to avoid chaos

If you have raised a child or two

You know that theory can't be true

For any child I've been or seen

Can be selfish, stubborn, or mean

So, why behave the way we ought

Is it something that must be taught

Is there behavior that's ideal

Or can we all act as we feel

The standard of how to behave

Is something Heavenly Father gave

His ten commands for right living

Required when sin entered the scene

Since time the first sin had begun

A constant battle to be won

For tis our nature, sad to say

Too often want to have our way

Right living must be thing we choose

A standard God gave us to use

To live in peace and harmony

Something to work on constantly

You'll find that as you live right way

More loving nature you'll display

Then grace and kindness that you give

Become the standard which you live

1 John 1:8

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us

John 15:12

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you

1Corinthians 10:13

Deuteronomy 6:6-8

2 Timothy 3:16

Matthew 22:37-39
