230918 Things To Do

Things To Do

I've always been a list maker

Recording all things needing done

As I complete each written task

Delight in crossing off each one

It seems no matter what I do

I can't seem to shorten the list

For every time I cross one off

There're two more chores that I have missed

Though I am by no means a slacker

For I work very hard each day

Can't relish in completed tasks

That doesn't seem to be my way

Instead, when each long day is through

And I take stock of the day's list

Don't celebrate the tasks crossed off

Only lament the ones I've missed

As if the list is some score card

That takes measure of my true worth

And accomplishing a lot each day's

My only true purpose on earth

Of course, each day has work to do

And things that I know must be done

But my sole value and my worth

Is not based on every last one

For God sees me as his dear child

Not as list of accomplishments

He loves me  'cause of who he is

In world's economy, makes no sense

Yet, world values just what I do

Profession, income, or degrees

Too often see as the world does

But that is not what my God sees

For he sees deep within my soul

And judges what is in my heart

Not things that I check off a list

Or tasks marked on a kaper chart

See, hectic "doing" all day long

That's certainly not in God's will

He wants relationship with us

That only happens when we're still

So, start a new list of "Things To Do"

Before you list a job or task

Seek God's will for your day ahead

He'll tell you what "to do," just ask

For when you seek his guidance first

And let your Father take the lead

You'll find the things you have "to do"

Won't overwhelm, and you'll succeed

Psalm 127:2

It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God

John 5:30

Philippians 4:6-7

Colossians 3:23-24
