Halloween
Was thinking back to Halloween
When I was just a kid
The pumpkin carving, popcorn balls
The mischief that we did
Picking the perfect costume
So, to dress up in disguise
Ringing doorbells to get candy
Endless days of sugar highs
The most important part to us
Deciding what to wear
Should it be costume that's funny
Or perhaps designed to scare
Watching old black and white movies
All produced to cause a fright
Ones with goblins, werewolves, monsters
Kind that keep you up all night
A season filled with spider webs
Jack-o-lanterns all aglow
A witch's hat, clown's funny face
Mummies wrapped from head to toe
Not everyone views day this way
To us, was harmless fun
A favorite holiday to some
Though it's not for everyone
No matter what your point of view
Harmless or something more
As members of God's family
Not a cause for civil war
Though try to have meeting of minds
Still, both sides may disagree
Opt out, or celebrate with zeal
Can be done respectfully
Without judgment, but Christian love
How to approach the day
A darkened door or pumpkin glow
It's okay either way
For truly what's important
Is how God's children are seen
As loving, caring every day,
That includes on Halloween
Matthew 7:1-2
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgement you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you
Hebrews 12:14
Strive for peace with everyone and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord
Romans 14:3
Philippians 2:14-16
