240101 New Year, New Beginning

 New Year, New Beginning

New Year, new work week, new beginning

The old year's reached an end

A clean slate, proverbial,  "do over"

A chance to start again

A time for new years resolutions

Time to begin anew

Full of great possibilities

Yet, it's the same old you

We want to get rid of old things

Old clutter, habits, past

And so we pledge to make clean start

Somehow, it never lasts

With the greatest of intentions

Resolutions we will make

Yet, it seems before the month is out

Every single one we break

How do we form new habits

So that things can truly change

How to ensure lasting success

When inside we're still the same

Perhaps it starts with baby steps

For better habits to form

Investing time consistently

For new self to be reborn

Not pledging to spend hours at gym

Decluttering til it hurts

Give huge amounts to charities

Forgoing all desserts

Perhaps the better place to start

For help and guidance, too

Maybe the One who never changes

Is the One that can change you

He'll give you the willpower to change

If the change is in his will

Not through your strength but his alone

Just surrender and be still

Declare to God each day this year

When you arise from sleep

" I give my day fully to You"

That's a small step you can keep

Then, watch how lasting change occurs

When each morning starts that way

You'll be renewed from inside out

Little by little, day by day

Psalm 33:11

The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of the heart to all generations

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,  and all these things will be added to you

Romans 12:2

Proverbs 3:5-6
