240106 Backward Forward

Backward Forward

When I look backward, things seem clear
I know this place, 'cause I've been here
But looking forward's hard to do
It's not yet something I've been through

Yes, backward is somewhere I've been
Events and places I have seen
Backward's familiar,  comfortable
Not uncertain or formidable

Rose-colored glass can change my +view
Of days I've already lived through
The dull and mundane are forgotten
Remember good things, not the rotten

Still, backward's how I tend to gaze
Quite sure that those were better days
Relived with touch of melancholy
Too much of that is surely folly

'Course there's things I look forward to
Planning the future's nothing new
Where's next vacation? Mountains? Beach?
Can't wait until retirement reach

Still, looking forward's hard for me
A place shrouded in mystery
Sometimes, I can't see past my nose
So, how to see where future goes?

Moving forward is what time will do
Even if I do not want it to
So, looking that way makes more sense
Than always living in past tense

How to look forward without stress?
Uncertainty of what comes next?
Requires trust in God's good plans
To know all time is in his hands

Look backward; see his love and grace
We're with me always, every place
So, moving forward, they'll be too
I now see clearly how that's true

God knows me forward, backwards, too
So what he promises, he'll do
Thus, going forward, my steps are bold
Knowing they lead to streets of gold

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,  plans for welfare and not evil, to give you a future and a hope

Luke 12:32
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom

Matthew 6:34
Proverbs 3:5, 16:9, 19:21
