240114 Pride

Pride

How do you learn to swallow pride
When you've fouled up and want to hide
But know you need to just admit
That you have made a mess of it
For inside, you know 'til you do
The guilt will keep on haunting you

How do you handle eating crow
When they all tell you, " told you so"
Your part in it might be denied
That's how you hang on to your pride

We know that pride's a deadly sin
And only adds to mess you're in
So you must learn to swallow it
Though you may feel that it's legit

For if you play scenario through
Your pride has done nothing for you
So, why do you keep hanging on
To something harmful for so long

Let's play this through a little more
Imagine if you close pride's door
Take ownership of what you've done
Then, find real healing has begun

For truly you should have no shame
If just repent and take full blame
You'll find if you've a contrite heart
That's when you'll see forgiveness start

So make a choice; it's up to you
Can't have your pride and eat it, too
You'll find you're not the only one
Who needs grace for the things they've done

Yet, if your pride feels way too strong
Can't face the facts when you've done wrong
Ask God, for he can help with this
For he is in the grace business

Then, oh, what joy when made things right
Thus, finally sleep peacefully at night
And those you've wronged will rejoice too
Because they've reconciled with you

James 4:6
But he gives us more grace. That is why scripture says,"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. "

Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction,  a haughty spirit before a fall
