240509 Regret

Regret

There's no one in this world, I bet
Who's not had something to regret
As sinners, we've done things before
That we are truly sorry for

Regret is such a dreadful thing
With all the angst that it can bring
" If onlies," and "What ifs" abound
Causing regrets to stick around

Though commonplace, not meant to last
Insists that you live in the past
Which only spoils the here and now
And can't change a thing anyhow

Regret can beat you down, my friends
Used by Satan for his own ends
Convincing you they mark your worth
Tormenting you is devil's mirth

Regrets fill head with guilt and shame
Til what you've done and are are same
If Regret Road you're traveling on
You can't undo what you've done wrong

Yet, there is one thing you can do
Learn from them and then start anew
So, when regrets live in your head
Replace with something good instead

Rebuke the devil and his ploy
To cause regret to steal your joy
True joy is only found in Christ
And acceptance of His sacrifice

Regret says if you live in shame
Sin's price is paid again and again
Then Jesus' death was all for naught
If forgiveness has to still be bought

Can't pay what you no longer owe
Confess your past, then let it go
Come to the Lord with contrite heart
Let love and mercy do their part

Both can be found at wounded feet
Whose death made atonement complete
Now gratitude's your only debt
Fill life with that, and not regret!
