240611 Pretending

 Pretending

Some say that only kids pretend
While certainly kids do
Children are not the only ones
Pretending what's not true

For who has not pretended
That their life was going well
So loved ones would not worry
Thus, keep smiling and don't tell

Or what about pretending
That you know more than you do
When if you're being honest
Know you haven't got a clue

Or guilty of pretending
To be interested, while bored
Because the person sharing
Was a person you adored

Have you ever pretended
To be confident when not
On outside acting, oh, so cool
Inside stomach's a knot

May sometimes act indifferent
Or pretending not to care
When in reality you're hurt
By things that are unfair

But, even as a child, if you
Pretend continuously
There's danger you will lose sight of
What's real or fantasy

Pretending's not reality
See that clearly when kids do
But children and adults pretend
The things they wish were true

Yet, there's no need pretending
Or displaying false facade
Can act in total honesty
With your good and loving God

No need to have all answers
Or act happy when distraught
Pretending you can handle things
When the truth is you can not

No cause for any pretense
For God knows you from within
So, you can be transparent
Let him see what's genuine

What awesome freedom that brings
When to yourself, you are true
Never a reason to pretend
To a God who so loves you
