240704 In Dependence

 In Dependence

In life, so much dependent on
Seems dependence has its pros and cons
Reliance - freedom seem at odds
Yet, both I see are gifts from God

For, we depend upon a chair
To hold us up when we sit there
Likewise, rely upon our car
To take us places near or far

We count on water to come out
Whenever we turn on the spout
Depend upon electricity
To turn on lights so we can see

Rely upon the grocery store
To have the things we're shopping for
When flying on a trip somewhere
Depend on plane to stay in air

There're people we depend on, too
To help us do the things we do
Co-workers,  family, a friend
Are all on whom we may depend

But what if those depended on
Have let you down or done you wrong
Been hurt before, won't hurt again
So only on my self depend

Perhaps you're independent kind
I need no one; I'll be just fine
Asking for help shows I am weak
Advice or aid, I'll never seek

For need shows vulnerability
Can't let you see that side of me
So, I pretend I'm oh so strong
I need no help to get along

But, wait dear child, oh can't you see
That's not heaven's economy
For just like earthly children do
God's kids depend on Father, too

It's in dependance on the Lord
That you'll receive greatest reward
With reliance on Him, peace is found
For He will never let you down

Yet, as members of Christ's body
Also need sense of community
For, when we fall and hit the ground
We need others to be around

Interdependence is God's plan
Since time He created the first man
For He created helpmate too
Adam needs Eve, and I need you

So, in dependence let's rejoice
Our need for others, not a choice
It's part of God's most perfect plan
To help each other when we can

To know with complete certainty
In God, we've total dependency
And, oh, what freedom that truth brings
To trust our Father with all things

Happy In Dependence Day!

God Bless America!
