240731 Real Change

 Real Change

Do you notice what is wrong with them
And too seldom what is right
Often pointing out another's fault
And bringing it to light

Is building up somebody else
Thing you infrequently do
Is constantly correcting
Something you'd like done to you

Are harsh words meant to criticize
Often, what rolls off your tongue
Do you find singing their praises
Is a song you've seldom sung

Do you wake up in the morning
With a sour attitude
Not with thankfulness for the new day
Instead, with ingratitude

Is trying to change others
The way you invest your time
For certainly the problem's theirs
'Cause I'm sure it can't be mine

If that at all describes you
Even just a little bit
And you don't like that side of you
Desire to get rid of it

To fight world's sinful nature
You must first look from within
Acknowledging your need to change
Is the place you should begin

Of course, nobody is perfect
And no one is always nice
But, your goal as a Christian is
To be more and more like Christ

And if the places you fall short
You honestly will face
Seek God's forgiveness, strength to change
He'll extend mercy and grace

If you pray with all sincerity
Your repentance, genuine
You'll see yourself begin to change
Gradually and over time

For God says if you'll seek, you shall find
But firstly, you must seek
Then, he'll soon transform your actions
And even the words that you speak

And while you're in the process
You'll see others in new light
With more patience and compassion
For they're fighting the same fight

Though this process takes a lifetime
'Til transformation is complete
You truly shall be holy
When you sit at Jesus's feet
