240921 The Arrogance of Man
The Arrogance of Man
How great the arrogance of man
That he thinks God can't, but he can
His way is better; God's is worse
Implied to King of Universe
Or sometimes more than just implied
Lord's great omniscience, man's denied
" How could God know what's best," says he
I'll live life independently
Man gives his arrogance the nod
When he thinks he can replace God
And live his life completely free
Devoid of all authority
The arrogance of man's to blame
Since the Garden of Eden's shame
And ever since that fateful day
Man's wanted to have his own way
Of course, free will is a good thing
Unless man wills himself as king
And expects to have sovereign reign
Plus, his own glory, seeks to gain
Arrogance makes a man believe
He's in control, but that's naive
For real control's fleeting at best
Truly, it's in God manifest
How does man get off his high horse?
How does his arrogance change course?
Too often it requires dark pit
For man to see folly of it
When haughty man takes a hard fall
It's then that he surrenders all
When life's in chaos and discord
Then, man seeks an omnipotent Lord
Sometimes, requires a reckoning
To submit to the Lord and King
For when man takes things way too far
God then steps in; and here we are
The day of reckoning is near
For of the Lord, man has no fear
Morals, God's laws - man's not encumbered
Yet, even Satan's days are numbered
Lord, help man see his arrogance
And bow to your omnipotence
In sweet surrender, turn to You
With praise and glory you are due
