241011 The Good Book

 The Good Book

The Bible seems to have some flaws
Some things just don't make sense
While other things rub me wrong way
And some, I'm on the fence

If Book's so good, and is our guide
Why filled with so much strife
Of all the characters within
Few lead a godly life

Am I to model what I read
When each of them fall short
Or are they cautionary tales
Right path they did abort

See, Bible is full of dead guys
Who lived so long ago
My troubles are in modern times
What do those old guys know

The problem is that the Good Book
Won't jibe with my worldview
Perhaps the problem's not the book
Perhaps the problem's you

If you expect the Bible to
See things just how you do
Or to align with fallen world
What good is it to you

The Bible is the word of God
Hard truths,  that sometimes means
And characters within can teach
If look behind the scenes

For there is such great wisdom there
For anyone to glean
If time is spent in study
Not flip through like magazine

The same human condition
Does transcend all time and place
So the lessons Bible teaches
Are common to human race

Yet, Word won't conform to our thoughts
For God's thoughts are higher still
Though we wish to know all answers
In this life, we never will

Still, the Bible is a Good Book
Meant to lead us to the Lord
You see his loving character
Is embedded in each word

Let's approach Word with humility
Our arrogance to shelf
With open heart, and open mind
Partake of its great wealth
