 Have You Ever

Have you ever known just what to do

But somehow couldn't do it

Have you been aware of steps to take

But wouldn't follow through it

Have you ever sensed which road to take

But just don't seem to walk it

Or perhaps you've known just what to say 

But couldn't seem to talk it

Have you perceived just what not to do

Yet instead, you went and did it

Have you ever seen trouble ahead

And proceeded to step in it

Guess we've all behaved this way sometimes 

Made our bed now must lie in it

Don't do what should but do what shouldn't 

Simply's got to be more to it

For the spirit's willing but body's weak

What needs doing - can't seem to begin it

It's the eternal battle 'tween spirit and flesh

We need help if we're going to win it

All starts with first step to do right, avoid wrong

Lace your shoes, take deep breath, let's get to it

Pray for strength and God's will to do what you must

With his help you'll be sure to get through it

For if prayer's your first step on what e're lies ahead

You can bet that the Lord listens to it

So each mountain you face or mistake to erase

With God's help you'll be sure to subdue it

Soon the task that you dreaded or talk you must have

Now, through life's rearview mirror you see it

Then success will be yours and you'll soon tackle more

Just because you let God oversee it
