241111 The Little Things

 The Little Things

We think it's just the big things
That color this life we live
But maybe it's the little ones
That fall right through life's sieve

The tiny, precious, sparkly things
Like gold dust in a stream
Brushed off as insignificant
More valuable than seems

The fleeting little moments
That bring loveliness and bliss
And simply are not recognized
Or easily dismissed

A quiet cup of coffee
Before household has awakened
The smell of gentle showers
Or a frying pan of bacon

The joy upon returning
Whether near or far you roam
To hear voices when you turn the know
Excited that you're home

A tiny hand reaching for yours
To safely cross the street
Warm cookies from the oven
A sweet songbird's morning tweet

An orange and purple sunset
As the day turns into night
The crackle of a campfire
Seeing eagles take to flight

Every day is full of little things
Each tender as a kiss
All blessings from a loving God
Pay attention; do not miss

For when you look back on your life
You'll see without a doubt
That it was all the little things
That you can't live without
