241204 Perfection

 Perfection

How often world demands perfection
Of those it wants to look up to
When they fall short, suffer rejection
You're flawed, so now we'll cancel you

Too frequently in self-reflection
We set the bar too high to meet
Not perfect, so we feel dejection
Quest for ideal ends in defeat

And so, as means of own protection
From critic's eyes, we try to hide
Presenting self to skew perception
So they won't see flawed you inside

Why seek a life that is perfection
The perfect job, spouse, kids, or car
That mindset needs some redirection
This perfection thing's gone way too far

Perhaps deep in soul's recollection
Some memory of perfection knew
In Garden prior to man's ejection
Place our hearts still try going to

And thus, we feel that imperfection
Hurts man's and God's relationship
The only way to make correction
Use perfection as a bargaining chip

If no mistakes, then God's affection
He'll shower on me lavishly
If good enough, won't need protection
From wrath God might direct at me

The world God planned at its inception
Was one where sin did not belong
That very sin changed world's direction
Took Christ to set right what went wrong

Lives don't require perfect reflection
Because Jesus lived perfect one
Through Savior's death and resurrection
The victory over sin's been won

Now Christ's the perfect intercession
Between man and a loving God
It's through him we have reconnection
No need to have perfect facade

So, drop the goal to reach perfection
It's folly and can't be achieved
Till you've reached final destination
Because in Jesus, you believed
