250225 The Victim Card

 The Victim Card

For some, it isn't very hard
To choose to play the victim card
Thus, state your actions aren't your fault
A game that surely can be taught

To claim in life that you've been cheated
A product of how you've been treated
Absolving responsibility
Eliciting our sympathy

Of course, there is true victimhood
For in this world not all are good
And people do horrific things
Thus, pain and suffering it brings

Yet, staying in a victim state
Need not become a victim's fate
If in the corner, you still cower
You've given up all of your power

What 'bout those who lob victim bombs
Igniting fires like napalm
Creating a whole victim class
Then shouting grievances en masse

True victims in life do abound
And you can find them all around
But, if you choose to think that way
Then, as a victim, you will stay

All of us could claim victimhood
But does that really mean we should
For if we stay within that space
A brighter future, never face

Let's throw away the victim card
Believe me, I know it is hard
Dismiss victim mentality
Instead, live life of victory

Pray for discernment, so to see
True victims in society
Then go through life doing your best
To love others; release the rest

And in so doing, trust the Lord
To even any unfair score
Then, put your faith and hope in Him
Thus, be a victor, not victim
