250228 The News

 The News

Feels like the world's not doing well
That it is barreling straight towards hell
For anger, chaos, hate abound
Patience and love are scarcely found

If we turn on the nightly news
 Joy and security, we lose
For, their goal seems to pedal fear
So, doom and gloom are all we'll  hear

Then, as we view each news story
We begin to endlessly worry
At best, we feel air of malaise
At worst, extreme angst, even rage

What if we chose to turn it off
Now hear me out before you scoff
When it comes on, we leave the room
For, aren't we all what we consume

Resist pull of news media
Don't gorge on what they're feeding ya
Is every plane crash, murder, riot
What you would call a healthy diet

Rather than absorbing world's news
Allowing it to shape our views
What if we made God our news source
Allowing him to guide our course

Reflecting not world's misery
Though there's much of that, certainly
Instead, intentionally to choose
To reflect Jesus's Good News

To share the love of risen Lord
Spread joy and peace and not discord
Investing time in what uplifts
Instead of endless newsreel clips

To make a difference where we can
Extend an olive branch; a hand
Even to those with different views
Now, wouldn't that be lovely news
