250305 I'm Sorry

 I'm Sorry

I'm sorry for mean things I do
But also, kind things not done, too
Actions I've taken that weren't right
Instead of peace, I chose to fight

I'm sorry for tasks left undone
And sharp words that rolled off my tongue
For attitude that can be terse
The times I've only made things worse

I'm sorry I act selfishly
At times, I only think of me
Though often I love lavishly
Been also known to be judgy

I'm sorry when I'm short of time
And you don't get any of mine
Or when I grow impatient, too
With little things you say or do

There're many times I've fallen short
Or not behaved like a good sport
Seen others as us versus them
From where does all this regret stem?

Important to be penitent
To say, "sorry" and have it meant
Regret can be a helpful thing
When healthy changes, it does bring

The rub is when sorry mindsets
Fill your whole life up with regrets
Though words and acts deserve judgment
A life of shame's not heavensent

The Lord requires a contrite heart
To some, that is the easy part
It's good you've a remorseful spirit
What's good, Satan will counterfeit it

For, that's part of the devil's game
Sidetrack repentance; make it shame
Convince you that you've been condemned
So shame and regret never end

Remember Jesus' sacrifice
For every sin, he's paid the price
We stand convicted, that's still true
For righteous,  no condemnation's due

Still say, "I'm sorry," absolutely
But then release it, and live freely
To God, we're righteous and redeemed
Our filthy rags have been washed clean

All praise, honor, and glory due
To One who ransomed me and you
We've heard Christ's call to " Follow me"
So be his light, not be sorry
