250307 With Whom We Disagree

With Whom We Disagree

How is it that we tend to be
With those of whom we disagree
Do we enjoy lively debate
Or do our words border on hate

Do we listen to other side
Or are our views matter of pride
That if yours don't agree with mine
Then, somehow you have crossed a line

To opposition, deaf and blind?
Or do we come with open mind
Respecting other's right to speak
As search for truth and knowledge seek

There're those in life, you must agree
Who get along more easily
People with whom you may connect
Because you share mutual respect

But, can people have different views
That come from place of shared values
Can they agree to disagree
And still choose to remain friendly

Should those opposed be vilified
Or all they say, we in turn chide
Exchanging verbal tit for tat
Now tell me, what's the sense of that?

There's an art to diplomacy
With those of whom we disagree
As much as it is up to you
Live peacefully, as Christ would do

Judge whether it's good time to speak
Or if it's just a nose you'll tweak
To know when you should hold your tongue
Can stop arguments 'fore begun

When conflict rears its ugly head
Choose loving responses instead
Rather than attend every fight
Find ways to be a source of light

Treat everyone with dignity
Even with those whom we disagree
To live in harmony, do our best
Then, trust the Lord to do the rest
